COOKING SCHOOL

The inaugural Sweers Cooking Schools took place this August, featuring French Chef Martial (Max). It has been a huge success! Click here to see how it all went! Some of our 'past pupils' were back again in October and we had great fun recreating some of the dishes and trying some more!

WARNING:

Jetstar have introduced a limit of 1.9m for fishing rod holders etc.

Virgin's limit is 3m.

Skytrans (Cairns - Normanton) can fit a limit of 2.2m.

Sweers Island has miles of golden beaches, blue waters, a wealth of history, and a huge variety of bird life. Although it is a fisherman's paradise, it offers enjoyment for the whole family.

Sweers is located in Australia's southern Gulf of Carpentaria approximately 30 km off the coast, directly north of Burketown.

The island is surrounded by acres of rock reef, with some coral, much of which has never seen a fishing line.  You can fly-fish off the beach or troll from the boat.  We cater for keen fishing groups and families. You're welcome to visit for the day or stay as long as you wish.

There is also bird watching, bush walking and you can also swim off the miles of sandy beaches.

(TARIFF INCREASE - Because of the increased cost of fuel, food, freight, boats and motors, we are reluctantly forced to increase our daily rate from $310 to $330. This is our first rise in two years. This averages out to approximately 3% p.a. - considerably less than the CPI.) This price is per person, per night; it includes all meals, accommodation and boats - excellent value! There is a licensed bar and prices are comparable with those on the mainland. Click here for more details on accommodation etc.

Your hosts are Tex & Lyn Battle,

ably assisted again this season by Mick & Lee Davies.

That's Tex & Lyn,  Lee & Mick,  waiting to welcome you to Sweers Island!

In 1987 Tex & Lyn with partners Ray & Salme, conceived the project , built the facilities and operated the Resort for 15 years. Ray & Salme have moved on but Tex & Lyn are still on Sweers and together with Mick & Lee Davies, they welcome you to their island in the sun...

IMPORTANT: The recent local Government changes mean that we are now part of the
Mornington Shire and therefore we are subject to the alcohol restrictions of that Shire.
Our airstrip is not included in our licensed area and it has now become an offence
to possess alcohol on the airstrip. The maximum penalty for a first offence is
$37,500.00 so we suggest that you do not try to bring in alcohol in your aircraft.
We have a fully licensed bar with a good range of wines, and we also stock souvenirs, basic fishing tackle, lures, and general supplies like sunscreen etc. We keep our prices reasonable and equivalent to mainland prices. If you would like to see our price list for the bar or other items just phone or click here and we can email you a price list.

WARNING

Please check BOM website for weather conditions and please phone us before departure to establish a SARtime.
