WATSON FAMILY TWILIGHT TOUR The Watson Family are back on the island for yet another family get-together on Sweers Island - this year the title of their tour is the Twighlight Tour. The guys arrived at 0830am, all fifteen of them, with the outgoing 15 flying out on the same aircraft - busy morning! While we raced around making beds, the guys were busy assembling their rods and reels on the verandah! By 10am some of the guys were already on the water and by lunchtime the first Big Mack had been brought on board. Check out these photos -
That's the new record Big Mack for 2010! On the left is Luke Craven with his 21 kilo Spanish Mackerel, and on the right his father Cyril looks quite proud of his son's achievement! Well done, Luke!
Click on the thumbnails below for a look at some more of the guys' great photos - Left to right: Rob Watson with a big mackerel; Luke, Rob & Cyril with some big macks; Shane Williamson with a big Mack, Glen Watson with a mack, Rob Watson with 2 nice Coral Trout, David Watson with two more nice Coral Trout, and Cyril craven with a huge Cod which was released unharmed.
Left to right: Rob with another big cod, also released unharmed (these fish are the big females, often 30+ years old, and are the breeders, best released back into the sea to keep the Cod population up); then Rob with a big Mackerel; Cyril in action catching another nice mackerel; David with a lovely Red Emperor; Rob with a Coral Trout and Red Emperor; and Bill with a Red Emperor and Coral Trout. Well done guys - see you all again next year!
OVERSEAS VISITOR It's not all that often we get visitors from overseas, so it was nice to welcome Katsumi Honma, all the way from Japan, who dropped in to Sweers for a day's fishing on his personalised tour of the north with SkySafari http://www.skysafari.com.au/ Katsumi chartered MV Salomon for an afternoon's fishing and skipper Mick ensured they came back with big smiles and some lovely fish! At one point, the drag on the reel came free, and Katsumi grabbed the line with bare hands, managing to hand line the big Mackerel in to the boat! Well done! Next visit, he is going to show us how to make Sushi!
Katsumi with a prize mackerel, caught on charter with skipper Mick in MV Salomon. SkySafari's Bradley & Katsumi share some fresh Sashimi with the Watson family.
CANBERRA RAIDERS Alan Hill, Dave Clempson 'Clemo' aka 'B@stard Airways!' and their regular troupe from Canberra/southern region, were back again in mid July, and had an absolute ball catching some fine Spanish Mackerel, Reddies and some really good Coral Trout. Check out these pix: (click on thumbnails below for a larger image)
We also had the Wellings Group (again!) from southern parts....check out their pix...
And at around the same time we had more regulars - Tony and Harry Wheeler,
and also Mick & Krisha George from South Australia, along with Mick Davies - yes! father of Our Mick! After a season's absence due to health dramas/operations (new knees working fine!) he is back in action and caught some fine fish...
and of course we had the Wilson family from Horsham - regulars - Dick, Nick & Maggie, this time with newbies Lydia (daughter) and hubbie Nathan. They all caught fish and they all had lots of fun! Our Lyn just laments that the weather was great but the sea was too murky for diving!!! (Nick is qualified scuba diver now...after several years of snorkelling Sweers! Next time, Nick!)
MICK/MACK ATTACK! Well, our Mick has gone straight to the top of the leaderboard with this 18kg Spanish mackerel which he caught on Thursday 24th June - what a whopper! Well done, Mick - and he caught it on a soft plastic lure, if anyone needs that info to try to beat this record fish!
