PEROT POWER The Perot boys were here two years ago (see their pix on the 2005 Pix link) and the team is back, minus Gordy (who has a new baby!) and Liam (who is very ill in hospital - our best wishes to him, "Slainte", Liam). In spite of the cold, the guys are producing some fine catches of fish - check this out:
and we better post this photo of the Patriarch of the family, Gary, with his HUGE 18kg Spanish Mackerel, which is the second-biggest fish caught this year... well done!
And the guys have been keeping in touch with the folks at home - in spite of the extensive advertising that Telstra's "NEW G" network services "98%" of Australia - it would appear that Sweers is in the two percent that is NOT serviced...we are roughly halfway between the cells on Mornington Island and Burketown, and we generally only get mobile coverage late at night. But guests have come up with a makeshift solution...hoist the phone (antenna) higher for greater range...here is Christian using a method originally trialled by Cap'n Owey of Micromist Aviation...and Yes, it really does work!
Christian hoists his mobile phone up the flagpole (secure in a sock!) so he can send and receive text messages! Hey, Christian! Do you realise you left the sock behind!
Here are some photos courtesy of the Marsh Family...click on the thumbnails for a larger image... That's dad Ken on the left, Derryn on crutches and 12.5kg mackerel (3 days after having had 4 pins inserted in a broken ankle!), then Fraser wrestling another Big Mack on board - the Marsh's took lots of photos, and released almost all of their catch.
Ken with his huge 14kg Spanish Mackerel, and Shane also struggling to hold up his 14.5kg monster... while Fraser hooks the plug?
The guys also hooked some nice bottom fish - cod, red emperor etc. And enjoyed the magnificent Gulf Sunsets...
We'll let Fraser and the Mackerel have the last word on this one... Click on the photo below to see who gets to say what...
