THE BARRA ARE BITING IN 2006...

Well, the first group in this season was the Burdekin Boys, who arrived early afternoon, and within a couple of hours they had hooked EIGHT lovely Barramundi off the beach! They kept a couple and released the rest. Next day they had more fun with the Barra, also heading out to the reefs where they hooked up some Cod, Coral Trout, Fingermark, Reddies and some big Queenies.

How's that for a start to the fishing trip!

That's Billy Dingle and Darrell Hinschen with some lovely ocean barramundi..

The boys were keen, having driven from Airlie Beach via Townsville only to be stranded at Croydon with the floods. Undaunted, they flew from Croydon to the island, but the rain followed them, and the following days were wet and chilly for this time of year. However, it didn't stop the boys fishing and it didn't stop the fish biting and in spite of the weather they went home happy with excellent catches of fish.

Then we had Stan Oliver and his group from Mount Isa plus some other visitors over the Easter weekend. The clouds cleared for a while and it was quite hot and humid, but the fishing still good:

We know they're out there somewhere!        Gotcha!

That's Stan's crew waiting for a bite.....             And Duncan reels in a big one!

Sweers Resort Sunset by Trevor Brereton

A nice sunset photo from Trevor Brereton...

Burdekin semi-local Rodney Prescott is back - with son Michael, who has also been several times over the years. Michael is showing his mates where the real fish are - here he is with some fine Barramundi, caught just offshore:

A fine catch!

Michael Prescott and Michael Plozza follow in their fathers' footsteps with this fine catch of the day!

And Mick and Lee are back on the island, after being stranded for over 3 weeks in Cairns waiting for the floods to subside. Lee has already knocked up a batch of muffins, and on his first evening back, here's what Mick had to say:

"It's good to be back!"
