EASTER BARRA!

Easter has brought us unexpected rain, making us all very nervous with 36mm of rain closing the airstrip on the Thursday...however, it didn't rain overnight and today is definitely Good Friday for lots of people who've travelled a long way including the Hogans from Brisbane, the guys from Townsville and Mount Isa, as well as some local Station people...

And the first crew were barely an hour on the island when they came back from Barra Beach with 3 beauties! One of them has a nasty gash on his leg where he slipped on the rocks, but he reckons it was worth the pain! The fish measured between 70 and 85cm.

Not to be outdone, our Mick ducked down for a quick cast and arrived back five minutes later with another one! The Hogan boys had been down there since dawn but we think Charlie & Lilly might have cramped their style (we'll make sure they stay home tomorrow, Pat!).

Not bad for a quick cast off the beach before lunch!     Quad Fishing on Sweers! Mick with a nice Barra...

That's Clint Wockner, Wayne Evans and Robbie White with their catch, (85cm, 80cm and 75cm) caught using their new favourite lures "Pink Sweers Special", and our Mick on the right with his 75cm Barra.

Incredibly, the guys went out after lunch to see if they could get some more Barra - they did! Even hooking some over at the Jewhole, we might have to change its name to the Barra Hole! Other species are also being caught - some nice cod, coral trout, sweetlip etc - but it is unusual to get this many Barra so here are more photos!

Not bad for a day on the water...

Not to be outdone by the local blokes, almost-local Sean Battle, also brought home a lovely 80cm Barra -

Sean Battle with a lovely Barramundi...

It just gets better and better...here's Clint with a 90cm Barramundi....getting close to the Magic Metre now, guys!

Are there any barra left in the Gulf Rivers or are they all here at Sweers!

And just to show that the guys are getting more than Barramundi...

Blue sunnies + blue lure = nice fish!

That's Clint with a nice Cod... (Clint's fishing/fashion tip: use a lure that matches your sunnies...)

Rob with a magnificent Red Emperor...

Robbie White with a magnificent Red Emperor...

Easter Sunday... and no more Barra...so the guys went after the reef fish...with great success - several nice Reds, Parrot Fish, Fingermark and Sweetlip.
